Basket wave hat / Czapka szachownica - plecionka

Today I would like to present a very simple pattern for a winter hat - "basket wave" or "chess board" - which is done from the top to the bottom. The pattern consists of chain stitches, slip stitches and double crochets (BR treble crochets) only. It is not only very easy to make but it also looks interesting. I have already done a hat this way as a Christmas gift for my brother. The measurement given below is for the hat I made for an adult person. The hook size was adjusted to the yarn, and in this project I applied a 4 mm hook. This was a good tight fit as requested. Let's start from creating a magic circle. Chain 3 stitches, which equals to one double crochet (BR treble crochet). Then cast further 25 double crochets (BR treble crochets) around and join the first with the last double crochet (BR treble crochet) using a slip stitch.   To start a new row - chain 3 stitches - this equals to one double crochet (BR treble crochet). Through...

Swivel (stepping texture) hat / Czapka ślimakowa (schodkowa - ukośna)

Today I would like to present a very simple pattern for a winter hat, which is done from the top to the bottom. The pattern consists of chain stitches, slip stitches and double crochets (BR treble crochets) only. It is not only very easy to make but it also looks very impressive. I have done several hats this way and everyone really likes them! The measurements given below are for the hats I made for my nieces, aged 10-12 years. Overall, I used 110 g of yarn (Drops Alaska, col. 11 - dark red, and col. 15 - midnight blue) for a hat. The hook size was adjusted to the yarn, and in this project I applied 4.5 mm instead of recommended 5 mm. For an adult person I would recommend yarn that could be worked with a hook size equal to 5-6 mm. We start creating the hat in the same manner as the universal hat design described in the previous post. Let's start from creating a magic circle. Chain 3 stitches, which equals to one double crochet. Then cast further 21 double crochets...

Double crochet universal hat / Uniwersalna czapka - słupki

This is a very simple and unisex design which always works! I have already done several hats using this pattern. The size of the hat on the photo is approx. large and can be easily regulated using thinner/thicker yarn and a specific crochet hook (smaller or bigger). Let's start from creating a magic circle. Chain 3 stitches, which equals to one double crochet. Then cast further 23 double crochets around and join the first with the last double crochet using a slip stitch.   To start a new row chain 3 stitches - this equals to one double crochet. Throughout the second row we will be making 3 double crochets in each double crochet from a previous row. This should result in 72 stitches. Join the first with the last stitch using a slip stitch. I know, it may sound a bit crazy as at the very begining hat will be very wavy. Do not worry, as the hat lenghtens, the texture will straighten up.  Following from the third row onwards, we will continue makin...
